FSWTraining - 2.5" Hose Drills

This week's video blog starts us on the direction of offering a variety of TRAINING drills.  Our goal here at Fire Service Warrior is to forge fire service excellence through the mastery of our knowledge, skills, and abilities across the range of Fitness, Training, and Mindfulness competencies.  You can look now for our posts on those topics to have that tag.  Last week Brian Brush brought us a FSWFitness Video, and this week he has a great FSWTraining video.  Next week I will be hitting a FSWMindfulness topic.  Enjoy the video and leave your comments below!

Please remember that these skills are meant to improve your ability to Master fundamental fireground skills which increase your capacity and ability to thrive on the fireground.

  2. Good stuff guys. I will definitely be utilizing these tools in my hose training. The backup man methods will be great for the toolbox.

If you guys haven't heard of him already - another great resource regarding hose handling is Aaron Fields of the Seattle Fire Department. He teaches the "Nozzle Forward" class locally, and is growing exposure nationally. When I attended AFTD in DC last month I ran into a guy from Lincoln, NE (board moderator of midwestfirefighter.com) who had taken his class. He loved it.

Aaron is a tuned in guy, and definitely has the "warrior mindset". He has a facebook page, titled "The Nozzle Forward". Feel free to check it out. There are some great youtube videos with his namesake (name and class) that are awesome. I have taken the class multiple times and will continue to take it over the course of my career.

Great job on the fitness programming. You are making a difference.

On a fitness note - I purchased a "prowler" sled (Rogue Butcher) for my fire station and am getting RAVE reviews from the guys at my station. It is an outstanding tool that is very applicable to our job.

Furthermore, it is pretty much injury proof and as a very easy way to inoculate our firemen developing a combat ready fitness mindset (in addition to other methods of functional programming).

We have many guys who would love to improve their combat readiness but due to resource gaps in physical training (reduced funding and number of trainers in our case) it is very difficult to provide individual instruction that alleviates their initial discomfort with core functional moves (notably squats, deadlifts, etc.).

    Thanks,

    Travis

  3. Hope you guys see this with the move happening over the weekend, these single man drills are perfect! Being on a combo department coverage can be sparse so one man and two man drills are a great addition. Not to mention being new to the fire service I'm just not there on figuring out effective drills that allow me to improve and grow. Love the info you guys are putting out.
